Subsea manipulator arms are vital for complex offshore operations. But traditional systems can be hard to handle, especially when tasks demand high precision and smooth motion. Operators often face limited control, reduced accuracy and higher risk in challenging interventions.

Envirent set out to change that with the Atlas Positioning Control System (PCS) Gen 3. This is an upgrade that transforms the proven Atlas 7F manipulator into a high-precision tool for the toughest jobs.

The Atlas Gen 3 sets a new standard in manipulator performance and cost-efficiency. Capable of delivering the same strength and accuracy with far less downtime and repair expenses, Atlas PCS Gen 3 significantly reduces maintenance costs while keeping full power and precision.

With the Atlas PCS Gen 3, we had a close collaboration with Envirent from concept to field-ready system. Our focus was to deliver a control package that combines reliability, precision and ease of use without compromising the strength and robustness of the Atlas arm. We worked on the system architecture, servo hydraulics, sensor integration and interface design. Together, we validated the upgrade against tough use cases – making sure the system could be installed quickly and deliver full position feedback.

The system combines servo hydraulics, magnetic sensors and a master controller to give the operator full position control. By making movements smoother and feedback immediate, operators reduce cost, errors and downtime while maintaining critical operational performance in every mission.
